In South Africa, Sport Is One Thing That Unites: Dale Steyn

Mumbai: Dale Steyn said on Thursday that in a country like South Africa, sports is the thing that brings everyone together.

“It does. It’s really a pity that everything is closing, because in a country like South Africa, where we have all our problems from the past – culture, religion, ethnic background – the one thing that brings everyone together is a sport, “ESPNcricinfo quoted Steyn as saying.

In light of COVID-19, veteran Pacer stated that countries that come together to enjoy the game are unable to do so after postponing and cancelling various events around the world.

“It doesn’t matter what religion you are or what colour your skin is, you can go to a game on Saturday and you can all support the same cricket team or rugby team and you all get along really well. But now at the moment, you don’t have that,” he added.

“Well, you know, fortunately for me, I don’t do too much cricket practice. I’m at a point where I think if I want a bouncer or length ball or yorker, I can do it. ” Muscle memory is enough to enable me to do this. So I just rock up on a game day and do my warm-ups and go through my basic routine and then try to play my mind, ”said Stan.

“The one thing that I need to continuously do is, I got to look after my body. I’ve got to do the rehab and a little bit of strength work, and I’ve got to keep my fitness up,” he added.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the ODI series between India-South Africa and Australia-New Zealand has been postponed. The start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has also been postponed to 15 April.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has suspended all types of cricket for 60 days.
