Ind vs NZ: Been A Hectic Schedule But Looking To Finish T20I Series On A High, Says Southee

Mumbai: New Zealand’s stand-in captain Tim Southee said the Kiwis would like to end the T20I series against India on a high on Sunday when the two sides meet in a dead rubber.

After the loss, Southee pointed to a “hectic schedule” that has seen the Kiwis play India in T20Is three days after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.

“It’s been a busy schedule, not only this (India T20I) but clearly behind the World Cup. But people have got one last push, after this next game many people go home so hopefully, we can finish the tour on a high,” said Southee in the postmatch press conference.

“It’s another chance to represent your country, so I don’t think you need any extra motivation to elevate yourself. It’s a great place to play cricket, coming here today in front of a full house. I’m sure the guys will be up to finish the tour on high,” he added.

India lost three wickets during the chase and all were picked up by Southee, who came back with figures of 3-16 in his quota of four overs.

Southee said, “I was just trying to reiterate how the Indian bowlers bowled, but it was difficult for our spinners to get a good grip on the ball. India was very good tonight.”

India beat New Zealand by seven wickets on Friday to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
