India Crosses 100 Crore COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Mark

Mumbai: India on Thursday crossed the 100 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses mark. India’s COVID-19 vaccination drive commenced on January 16, 2021.

As the dose of the COVID-19 vaccine administered in the country crossed the 100 crore mark, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also took to Twitter to congratulate India. He credited this achievement to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

To celebrate the “historic milestone”, Mandaviya will launch a song and an audio-visual film by singer Kailash Kher at the Red Fort in New Delhi around noon.

The country’s largest Khadi tricolour, which weighs around 1,400 kg and dimensions 225 feet x 150 feet, will be displayed at the Red Fort on the occasion. Notably, the same Indian flag was unfurled in Leh to mark the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 75th year of independence.

SpiceJet will display a special outfit to mark the achievement of the Rs 100 crore vaccine at the Delhi airport today. SpiceJet CMD Ajay Singh and Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will be present on this occasion.

Announcements will be made on aeroplanes, ships, metros and railway stations. The function will also be held at Central Government Hospitals in New Delhi.

The government wants to vaccinate all 944 million adults in India this year. Seventy-five per cent of them have received at least one dose, and thirty-one per cent have taken two.

The COVID-19 vaccination drive in India was launched on January 16, 2021. The first phase of vaccination covered Health Care Workers only.

Front line workers, such as Armed Force Personnel and Home Guards, were made eligible for vaccination from February 2.

From March 1, the vaccination drive was expanded to include persons above 60 years of age and those above 45 years with specified 20 comorbidities. It was from May 1 that all persons above 18 years of age were made eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination.
