India Fail To Secure Their Maiden Test Series Win On South African Soil, Lose 1-2

Mumbai: South Africa defeated India in the third Test in Cape Town by 7 wickets to clinch the series 2-1. With this, India failed to secure their maiden Test series victory on South African soil.

Chasing a target of 212, the home team rode on Petersen’s 82 and vital contributions from other batters to register a big 7-wicket win. Petersen had scored 72 in the first innings.

The fast bowlers played a key role in the win and shared 19 wickets between them. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jensen took seven wickets each, while Lungi Ngidi dismissed four batsmen.

The defeat in Cape Town has increased the wait for Team India to win the series in South Africa.

South Africa’s fast bowlers kept the home team in the game after India took a 13-run lead. Jansen and Rabada sent the Indian openers back early before Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane took the big wickets.

Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli together saved the team and added 94 runs for the 5th wicket. Following Kohli’s scalp, India managed to post a total of 46, thus setting a target of 212.

Rishabh was the only batsman to cross the 50-run mark and remained unbeaten on 100 at 139.

India’s hopes rest on the fast bowlers who took a big wicket off Markram. But Dean Elgar once again stood up and added 78 runs for the second wicket with Pietersen, who also scored a half-century in the first innings.

Pietersen’s wait to score his maiden Test century continues as Shardul Thakur dismissed him for 82.

Rassie van der Dussen (41*) and Temba Bavuma (32*) put up 57 runs for the 4th wicket to scale the chase and win the series for the home team.

The two teams will now lock horns in 3 ODIs on January 19, 21 and 23.
