India Fined For Maintaining Slow Over-Rate Against New Zealand In Fourth T20I

Mumbai: Team India were fined 40 per cent of the match fees on Saturday by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for maintaining a slower rate than New Zealand in the fourth T20I.

The Virat Kohli-led team was given two overs short of the target when the time allowances were taken into account and restrictions were imposed by Chris Broad of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referee.

As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for failing to bowl in their allotted time.

Captain Kohli had no need for a formal hearing, pleaded guilty to the crime and accepted the proposed sanction. On-field umpires, Chris Brown and Sean Haig, and third umpire Ashley Mehrotra made the allegations.

India won the match in the Super Over as both teams scored 165 runs in their scheduled 20 overs. With this win, India took a 4–0 lead over New Zealand in the five-match T20I series.
