Mumbai: Targeting the govt led by BJP, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that the country has entered into a recession for the first time in history due to the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“India has entered into recession for the first time in history. Mr. Modi’s actions have turned India’s strength into its weakness,” he said on Twitter.

Gandhi cited a news report in which the Reserve Bank of India stated that the country’s GDP was likely to contract by 8.6 percent in the July-September quarter, meaning that the Indian economy was likely to witness a technical slowdown for the first time in its history.
