India Proposes A Technical Meeting With Pakistan

Mumbai: After three successful technical meetings with Pakistan India has reminded its neighbor of their fourth technical meeting over its Kartarpur corridor. But even after the reminder from Indian side, Pakistan has given no response.

“India has proposed to Pakistan to hold technical level meetings in the first week of August to work out the arrangements and finalise the alignment of the interim approach part of the Kartarpur corridor and develop a mechanism to share information on pilgrims on nodal points, develop a mechanism to deal with exigencies that may arise in the use of Kartarpur Corridor. Pakistan hasn’t responded yet. A reminder has also been issued to Pakistan,” ANI reported.

The meeting was supposed to be the fourth meeting with Pakistan this year, these meetings were arranged to draw a solution to the Kartarpur Corridor problem, where Pakistan wishes to build a bridge over the Ravi river. According to the agenda of this meeting, India had asked Pakistan to build a service road to help pilgrims traveling to the Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib and a mechanism to share details of pilgrims.

The first three meetings were carried out in the months of March, April and May 2019. Earlier Pakistan’s bridge structure was a matter of concern for Indian side as the previous designs would have caused flood-like situations in India.

India is building a four-lane highway and bus terminal for the pilgrims to go the Kartarpur gurudwara. 45% of work is already done.
