India Record Their First-Ever Test Win In Centurion, Defeat South Africa By 113 Runs

Mumbai: India defeated South Africa by 113 runs in the first Test in Centurion to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. It is India’s first-ever Test victory in Centurion.

Overall, it is India’s fourth victory in Test cricket on South African soil.

Resuming the post-lunch session on 182/7, Mohammed Shami dismissed debutant Marco Janssen for just 13 runs by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.

Shami got the third wicket in the second innings and the eighth wicket overall in the match. In the very next over, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Taylor Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi to bundle out the Proteas for 191 to give India their first win at Centurion.

Earlier in the day, South Africa started with 94 for 4 as the team reached triple digits with captain Dean Elgar’s four. Fifth ball of the day to Mohammed Shami.

In the 46th over of South Africa’s innings, Shami dropped the catch of Dean Elgar and was dismissed for 63 runs. Protea skipper Elgar punished Indian pacers Shami and Jasprit Bumrah for hitting three boundaries from there. But India eventually got the big wicket as Bumrah was dismissed for 77 at Elgar leg before the wicket.

Dean Elgar was Bumrah’s third in the second innings and South Africa’s fifth with a score of just 130. Quinton de Kock came after Elgar’s wicket fell and combined with Temba Bavuma to take the hosts past the 150-run total.

The partnership did not last long as Mohamed Siraj got the prized skull of de Kock. Southpaw hits Siraj’s ball on the stumps from inside to the side. Shami was brought into the attack in the next over and the fast bowler dismissed Viaan Mulder for just 1 as India moved closer to victory.

Post lunch it was a mere formality for Virat Kohli led side as they registered a convincing 113 run victory to help India win their first Test in Centurion and also take a 1-0 lead in 3-match series.
