India Reports 16,504 New COVID-19 Cases, 214 More Deaths

Mumbai: India reported 16,504 new coronovirus cases on 4 January, taking the country to 1,03,40,469. The death toll rose from 214 to 1,49,649.

According to data from the Union Ministry of Health, there are currently 2,43,953 active cases across the country, while 99,46,867 patients have been discharged. A total of 19,557 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours.

The number of new daily infections in the country has been falling since mid-September when it peaked in more than 90,000 cases a day. The number of active COVID-19 cases has also come down from more than 10 lakhs to less than 2.5 lakhs.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 3,282 new cases and 35 deaths in the last 24 hours. There are now 53,137 active cases in the state, the health department informed. So far, 18,36,999 people have recovered, while the death toll stands at 49,666.

Kerala reported 4,600 new cases and 4,668 recoveries on Sunday. With this, the total number of active cases in the state now stands at 65,278.

As many as 424 new coronavirus cases and 708 recoveries were reported in the national capital on Sunday, as per the Delhi Health Department.

On the other hand, Indian Council Of Medical Research (ICMR) informed that 7,35,978 samples were tested on Sunday, the total number of samples tested far stands at 17,56,35,761.
