India Reports 40,134 COVID-19 Cases, Over 50% New Cases From Kerala

Mumbai: India has reported 40,134 new COVID-19 cases and 422 deaths in the last 24 hours. Kerala accounted for over 50% of the new cases in India as the state reported 20,728 cases on Sunday. The total number of cases currently stands at 3,16,95,958. The death toll has climbed to 4,24,773

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the country is 4,13,718. A total of 36,946 patients were cured in the last 24 hours and 3,08,57,467 people have recovered from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

This overall recovery rate is 97.35 per cent. Less than 50,000 new cases have been reported daily for thirty-six consecutive days. It is the result of continuous and collaborative efforts of the Centre, States and Union Territories.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 47.22 crores. As per the provisional report, till 7 am today, a total of 47,22,23,639 vaccine doses have been given through 55,99,690 sessions.

In the last 24 hours, 17,06,598 doses of vaccine were administered. The new phase of universalization of COVID-19 vaccination began on 21 June 2021. The Central Government is committed to accelerate the pace of COVID-19 vaccination and expand its scope across the country.

A total of 14,28,984 tests were conducted in the country in the last 24 hours, leading to a significant increase in the testing capacity across the country. Overall, India has conducted over 46.96 crores (46,96,45,494) tests so far.

The weekly positivity rate is currently 2.37% and the daily positivity rate is 2.81 per cent today. The daily positivity rate remains below 5 per cent for 56 consecutive days.
