India Reports 8,865 New COVID-19 Cases, Lowest In 287 Days

Mumbai: India has reported 8,865 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest in 287 days. The country also reported 197 deaths, taking the death toll to 4,63,852. India’s active caseload stood at 1,30,793, the lowest in 525 days, while the daily positivity rate stood below 1% (0.80%).

According to the Health Ministry, excluding 1,30,793 active cases in the country, the total number of Covid-19 infections has gone up to 3,44,56,401, while 3,38,61,756 people have recovered from the deadly disease.

The daily increase in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 39 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 142 consecutive days, the ministry said.

The ministry said that active cases comprise 0.38 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.27 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

Meanwhile, out of 8,865 new cases, 11,971 recoveries and 197 deaths, Kerala alone reported 4,547 new cases, 6,866 recoveries and 57 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 112.97 crore.
