India Responds After Pakistan Passes Resolution On Delimitation Exercise In J&K

Mumba: India has responded after the National Assembly of Pakistan passed a resolution on the subject of the delimitation exercise in J&K.

“We categorically reject the farcical resolution passed by the National Assembly of Pakistan on the subject of the delimitation exercise in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The government has underlined that Pakistan should immediately stop anti-India cross-border terrorism and shut down its terrorism infrastructure.

It underlined, “Pakistan has no right to speak or interfere in the internal affairs of India, including the Indian territories under the illegal and forcible occupation of Pakistan.”

“The delimitation exercise in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a democratic exercise based on the principles of comprehensive stakeholder consultation and participation. It is regrettable that the leadership in Pakistan instead of organizing its home continues to interfere in the internal affairs of India and engages in baseless and anti-India propaganda,” the statement further read.

It comes a day after the government slammed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for “inappropriate” comments and asked it to refrain from carrying out its “communal agenda”. We are dismayed that the OIC secretariat has once again made unwarranted comments on the internal affairs of India. As in the past, the Government of India categorically rejects the assertions made by the OIC secretariat on the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir which is an integral and inalienable part of India,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Monday.

“The OIC should refrain from carrying out its communal agenda against India at the behest of one country,” he said.

A proposal was recently submitted by a panel to increase the assembly seats in the Union Territory from 83 to 90. This is the first major exercise on this scale after the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

43 seats have been earmarked for the Hindu-majority Jammu region and 47 for Muslim-majority Kashmir in the resolution. Of the seven new seats, six are for Jammu and one for Kashmir.

However, days after the report came out, the opposition called the proposal “politically motivated”.
