India Sees 58,097 New COVID Cases, Highest In 199 Days; 20,000 More Than Yesterday

Mumbai: India has reported 58,097 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, a jump of over 20,000 cases from yesterday. This is the biggest one-day rise in cases in India after June 20, 2021, when the country reported 58,419 cases.

The death toll rose to 4,82,551 with 354 more deaths due to the deadly infectious disease.

The Health Ministry in its 8 am bulletin said that India’s COVID active caseload currently stands at 2,14,004. Active cases are less than 1 percent of the total cases, which currently stands at 0.61 per cent.

According to MoHFW, 15,389 coronavirus patients were cured in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,43,21,803.

As per the latest data available, more than 147.72 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far under the National Immunization Campaign.

Of the total COVID cases, Maharashtra alone accounted for 18,466 infections. Many states, including West Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka have been reporting a massive surge in coronavirus infections for the last few days.
