Indian Man Jumps In Chenab River, Body Found In Pakistan

Mumbai: The body of a young man who allegedly ended his life by jumping into the Chenab River last month has been recovered in Pakistan. The family of the deceased, Harash Nagotra, has now appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance in bringing back his mortal remains for the last rites.

Harish Nagotra, a resident of a border village in the Akhnoor sector, went missing on June 11. His motorcycle was found abandoned on the riverbank, leading to the registration of a missing persons report by his family the following day. According to a police official, preliminary investigations suggest that Nagotra may have taken his own life after incurring a loss of over Rs 80,000 on an online gaming application.

The family received confirmation of Nagotra’s death through a WhatsApp message from a Pakistani official after reactivating his SIM card. Nagotra had been working for a private telecommunication company. The message, sent by an official claiming to work in the post-mortem department, informed them that Nagotra’s body was recovered from a canal in Sialkot, Punjab province, on June 13.

Nagotra’s father, Subash Sharma, shared that the Pakistani official also informed him that the body had already been buried. The official sent Nagotra’s identity card via WhatsApp, confirming that the body found in Sialkot was indeed his son’s.

“We request our Prime Minister to help us get back the body of my son for last rites. We want to perform his last rites as per our religion,” Sharma pleaded.

Amrit Bhushan, a relative of Nagotra, stated that the family has already reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Prime Minister’s Office for assistance. “We are in a state of shock and grief and want his body back. We have also appealed to Pakistani authorities to hand over the body,” Bhushan added.

The tragic incident has left Nagotra’s family in deep sorrow, and they now hope for the intervention of the Indian government to bring closure to their loss.
