Indian Premier League 2020 Opener Sets New Viewership Record

Mumbai: The most awaited 13th season of Indian Premier League went on the floor on 19th September and it was the first time that the IPL was taking place in UAE following the COVID19 outbreak in India. 

Meanwhile, history has been created by the Indian Premier League as the opening match of the league Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings have gained a massive viewership for any league event. 

BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to twitter to announce that as per Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the tournament’s opener registered the highest-ever opening day viewership for any sporting league in any country with 20 crore viewers watching it on TV as well as online platforms.

“As per BARC, an unprecedented 20 crore people tuned in to watch the match. Highest ever opening day viewership for any sporting league in any country- no league has ever opened as big as this. @IPL @SGanguly99 @UShanx @DisneyPlusHS,” Shah tweeted.

The Indian Premier League also tweeted saying, “Thank you, India Flag of India and Earth globe Asia-Australian earth globe americasEarth globe Asia-Australia. It’s been a dream start to #Dream11IPL. CSK and MI are the most successful team in the tournament. Whereas Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma have won the trophy four times and Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni  for three times. 

In 2019 it was Rohit Sharma’s side who defeated MS Dhoni to lift the cup in a nail-biting final match by 1 run. 

Well, this year both the teams looked as strong as they were and as expected the opening match between both the teams was a thriller. And the yellow aarmy registered a 5-wicket win against Mumbai in the IPL 2020 opener played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 19.
