Indonesia Masters: PV Sindhu Enters Second Round, Saina Nehwal out in 1st round

Mumbai: PV Sindhu beats Japan’s Aya Chori to reach the second round of the ongoing Indonesia Masters.
The world champions, coming down from a game, won the match 14–21, 21–15, 21–11 in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal, she suffered a shock 21-19 13-21 5-21 defeat by the hands of Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi in a gruelling 50-minute contest.

The 24-year-old Sindhu will take on Takahashi in the second round. If Nehwal would have won, it would have been an Indian clash for the round two.

Srikanth lost 21–18, 12–21, 14–21 to local favourite Cheshire Hiren Rautavetto in a match that lasted one hour and three minutes. This was Srikanth’s second consecutive opening defeat this season as he also crashed out of the Malaysia Masters in the first round last week.

Saurabh lost to Chinese shuttler Lu Guangzhou in the opening round. Despite winning the first game 21–17, the Indian shuttler went down 15–21, 10–21 in the next two rounds to pull out of the tournament.

In mixed doubles, the Indian pair of Pranav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy lost 8-21 14-21 to South Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Eom Hyun Won in straight games.

Later, the men’s doubles pair of Satvikasairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty would take to the court, as the men’s singles would feature Sameer Verma, Parupalli Kashyap and HS Prannoy.
