Mumbai: On Thursday Indian Premier League witnessed another close encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) following which KXIP spinner Murugan Ashwin said that the addition of universal boss Chris Gayle into the side gives a lot of energy to the team.
“It’s good to win. The team gets a lot of energy if Chris comes back. The mood in the camp was always low even when lost. We didn’t lose our spirit, we know that we are playing good cricket and it is just getting over the line. Really happy that we won a game and it is about repeating it game after game,” he said in a post-match press conference.
Talking about the team’s performance in the tournament, Ashwin said that the team would look forward to replicating this victory in the coming match.
It’s a game of T20 all the games are really close and it is It’s about batting against the ball and ultimately it’s about who gets better than the other. We’re glad we crossed the line this time around to replicate this moment and make sure that this near end would come our way that the point table looks different. Take each game at once and play as best you can on the field,” he said
Chasing 171, KXIP skipper KL Rahul scored 61 runs in 49 balls, while Gayle hit a 53 to give KPIP its second victory in the showpiece tournament. It was Gayle’s first game of the season.
In the end, KXIP needed two from the last over but as soon as the match came down to 1 run from one ball, Yujvendra Chahal was fighting for his team. Nicholas Puran hit a six off the last ball as KXIP rested comfortably
KXIP both wins have come against RCB in the 13th edition of IPL. KXIP will now take on Mumbai Indians at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 18.
