Mumbai: Kings XI Punjab faced defeat last night against Rajasthan Royals even after scoring a huge target of 224 runs.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) opener Mayank Agarwal said that the team has not been able to close the match, but there are still 11 matches left and all the players remain positive.
“Of course, it is a lot of fun to bat with KL Rahul, we share a good friendship. He is a great man, the talk in the middle was if we both are set, then one guy at least of us two bats through,” he said in a post-match presentation.
Talking about the loss, Mayank Agarwal said: “I felt Rahul Tewatia batted really well to give Rajasthan a win. See, very honestly, the talk in the dressing room is very positive. We still have 11 games. Things that we are doing right, yes we have not been able to close out, but we are not focused on the results, we are executing most of the plans, and we are quite happy with it.”
For KXIP, Mayank Agarwal had scored a ton and it was his first century in the IPL. The right-handed Mayank smashed 106 off 50 balls with the help of 10 fours and 7 sixes.
Mayank and KL Rahul shared 183 runs for the first wicket and the pair set the record for the most opening partnership for KXIP in the IPL. This stand between the two batsmen is also the second-highest opening partnership in the IPL.
For Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, Steve Smith, and Rahul Tewatia all scored 50+ to win the team by four wickets. Tewatia came to bat at number four and was struggling at one stage as he scored just 13 runs in his first 19 balls.
However, in the 18th over, Sheldon Cottrell hit Tewatia for five sixes to give the team victory. The left-handed batsman smashed 53 as Rajasthan got a convincing win.
Kings XI Punjab will face Mumbai Indians on October 1.
