IPL 2021: Batting At The Top Will Give The Team The Right Balance Says Virat Kohli

Mumbai: In the opening match of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), defending champion Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli believes that batting at the top will give the team the right balance. Before the start of the tournament, Kohli said that he would start the innings for RCB.

He opened for India in the last T20I against England and played an unbeaten inning of 80 runs in 52 balls at the Narendra Modi Stadium. “I talked to Mike (Hessen) and Simon (Katich) last year that I wanted to open in IPL 2021 and I would go into that headspace, luckily things happened in such a way that I got the opening game in the last game against England and I ended up getting a good score which gave me the confidence to step into this role so I can probably do it again.”

Kohli said, “This experience was very important in this IPL, knowing that I am at the top of the order with my game and now I will balance in the team. My batting and those things are taken care of,” Kohli said in a video posted by RCB on their official Twitter handle.

The captain also talked about new faces in the support staff and their role in the side. “This time Sanjay Bangar has been added to the support staff. The amazingly balanced man offers good advice to the team with his head to shoulder.  Especially the youth have to speak the right kind of language at the right time so that they can get the best place. He brings a balanced view. We feel more confident that we are consistent with our system and process. We got the strongest squad this time around if we follow those things, good things are gonna happen again. We would like to go all the way to the final destination,” Kohli said.
