IPL 2025 to Kick Off on March 22 With KKR vs RCB Clash at Eden Gardens

Mumbai: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition is set to begin on March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens. Rajat Patidar has been announced as the new RCB captain, while KKR is yet to name their skipper.
The much-anticipated ‘El Clasico’ of the IPL between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take place on March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Their return fixture will be held on April 20 at Wankhede Stadium. RCB and MI will face off once this season, with their encounter scheduled for April 7, 2025.
The first double-header of IPL 2025 is also set for March 23. In the opening game of the day, last season’s finalists SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.


The 10-team tournament will start just 12 days after the Champions Trophy final on March 9 and will be played across 13 venues, including the ten traditional home grounds. Additional venues include Guwahati (Rajasthan Royals’ second venue), Dharamsala (Punjab Kings’ second venue), and Vizag (Delhi Capitals’ second venue). A total of 74 matches will be played over 65 days, with the league stage concluding on May 18, and the playoffs scheduled from May 20-25.
The IPL 2025 final will be played at Eden Gardens on May 25, with Qualifier 2 also set for the same venue on May 23. The Eliminator and Qualifier 1 will take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on May 20 and 21, respectively.
Punjab Kings will play three of their home games at Dharamsala, with the rest of their home matches at Mullanpur, Punjab. Delhi Capitals and KKR remain the only two teams yet to announce their captains for the upcoming season.
Among other leadership changes, Rajat Patidar will lead RCB, while Punjab Kings have named Shreyas Iyer as their new captain. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has been appointed captain of Lucknow Super Giants following the franchise’s decision to part ways with KL Rahul.
