“Later due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his movement was restricted,” officials said.
This terrorist was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Friday night.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwaha said that the terrorist was planning to place an IED on a heavily paved sidewalk.
“The special cell arrested an ISIS operative on Dhaula Kuan Ridge Road late night after a brief exchange of fire. The 36-year-old (terrorist) is named Abdul alias Abu Yusuf and has multiple surnames. Two pressure cookers have been recovered from nearby. He was going to plant them in a heavy footfall area,” he said.
The DCP said that the special cell has been tracking the operative contacts of the IS for the past one year.
“He was in direct contact with ISIS commanders. Initially, he was handled by Yusuf Alhindi who was killed in Syria.
Later, Abu Huzaifah, a Pakistani was handling him and he promised to call him to Pakistan. Huzaifa was later killed in a drone strike in Afghanistan. His next handler only commanded him to work as a lone wolf operative from India,” the DCP said.
Further, he also said that one pistol was also recovered from the terrorist.
The DCP said that the pressure cooker IEDs were neutralized by the NSG bomb squad.
He said that the terrorist told the police that he had tested the explosive device in his village a few months back.
