ISRO Successfully Launches Its 46th PSLV, PM Modi Applauds

Mumbai : In a recent development, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched small communication student-made satellite Kalamsat –V2 and imaging satellite Microsat-R through its PSLV-C44 into the intended orbit. A communication satellite named after former President Abdul Kalam, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

The launch took place at 11:37 pm. PSLV is a four-stage launch vehicle with alternating solid and liquid stages.PSLV-C44 is the first mission of PSLV-DL and is a new variant of PSLV.

The 10-cube satellite Kalamsat-V2 has a life span of two months and it weighs about 1.2kg.

In PSLV-C44, the fourth stage (PS4) of the vehicle will be taken to a higher circular orbit so that the orbital platform can be established to carry out experiments.

A student payload, Kalmasat, will be the first to use PS4 as an orbital platform. The PSLV-C44 will also carry an imaging satellite, Microset-R.

Earlier, ISRO Chairman K. Sivan said India’s second lunar mission, Chandrayaan-2, which was scheduled to be launched in late 2018, is now expected to be launched between March 25 and end of April this year.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated ISRO for the successful launch of PSLV sayings “Heartiest congratulations to our space scientists for yet another successful launch of PSLV. This launch has put in orbit Kalamsat, built by India’s talented students.”
