IT Raids On Kashyap, Taapsee Attempt To Curb Voices Of Dissent: Maharashtra Min

Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik on Wednesday said the Income Tax raids against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and actress Taapsee Pannu are an attempt to suppress the voices of dissent

The minister told reporters outside Vidhan Bhavan in South Mumbai, “Central agencies like ED, CBI and Income Tax are being used to target those who take an anti-government stance and speak out against the policies of the government.”

The locations of Anurag Kashyap and Taapsee Pannu have been raided. Both were raising their voice against the Modi government.

“This action has been carried out to suppress their voices,” said Malik, who is also the chief spokesperson of Sharad Pawar-led NCP.

The Income Tax Department on Wednesday raided the premises associated with the filmmakers including Anurag Kashyap, who launched the production house Phantom Films so far, Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibhashish Sarkar and Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu.

The searches were being carried out in over 30 locations in Mumbai and Pune, officials said.
