Jayalalithaa Death Probe: SC Stays Arumugaswamy Inquiry Committee

Mumbai: The Supreme Court on Friday abided Justice Arumugaswamy Inquiry Committee’s investigation for the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa.

The verdict was passed by a bench of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna in a plead by Apollo Hospitals.

On September 22, 2016, Jayalalithaa is popularly known as ‘Amma’ was taken to Apollo Hospital where she was cured for 75 days before she breathed her last on December 5.

In September 2017, Justice Arumugaswamy was authorized to head the probe into the death of the former Chief Minister.

After a year, the hospital asked for medical boards incorporating doctors and medical professions from the constitution to scrutinize Jayalalithaa’s medical record.

As per the affidavit filed to the Arumugaswamy Commission, the hospitals even demanded to commend the errors crept in due to the inability of a typist to comprehend and type correct medical terms.

Apollo hospital stated that words like ‘intubation’ were recorded as ‘incubation’ and other fatal errors.
