J&K Leaders Call Restoration Of Article 370 &35A, After PM Modi Announces Withdrawal Of 3 Farm Law

Earlier today, PM Modi announced that the Central government will repeal the three contentious farm laws

Mumbai: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a major move announced that the three farm laws would be repealed, politicians from Jammu & Kashmir demanded the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A.

People Democratic Party Chief Mehbooba Mufti said that the decision is a welcome step, however, it has stemmed electoral compulsion and fear of defeat in elections.

“Decision to repeal farm laws & an apology is a welcome step, even though it stems from electoral compulsions & fear of drubbing in elections. Ironical that while BJP needs to please people in rest of India for votes, punishing & humiliating Kashmiris satisfies their major vote bank,” Mufti tweeted.

In a tweet, the former J&K chief minister said that the desecrating of Article 370 was done only to please BJP Voters.

“Desecrating Indian constitution to dismember & disempower J&K was done only to please their voters. I hope they course correct here too & reverse the illegal changes made in J&K since August 2019,” she tweeted.

National Conference (JKNC) chairperson Farooq Abdullah said that the Union government must restore Article 370, 35A and the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir.

He further said that farmers should continue their protest till the time the three contentious laws are repealed in Parliament.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Central government will repeal the three contentious farm laws as they failed to ‘convince farmers’ that has sparked almost a year of massive protests by farmers.

The three contentious farm laws -Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; (2) Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020; and (3)Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 was enacted by the Parliament in September 2020.

Since November 2020, thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been camping outside Delhi, demanding that the laws be withdrawn. There had been several rounds of talks between the farmer leaders and the Centre but the impasse remained.

The Prime Minister said that the government will constitute a committee to work on a new framework for Minimum Support Price (MSP).
