It is Buttler's second hundred in IPL, with this first coming against SRH in IPL 2021

Mumbai: Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Jos Buttler has become the first batter to smash a hundred in IPL 2022.

The 31-year-old, who is playing in his 300th T20 match, reached the three-figure mark against Mumbai Indians (MI) off 66 deliveries.

It is Buttler’s second hundred in IPL, with this first coming against SRH in IPL 2021.

He got off to a cautious start but reached three figures in 66 balls when he dismissed Basil Thampi for 26 in the fourth over of the match, and then there was no looking back. This was Butler’s second IPL century and third in all T20 Internationals.

He lost his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal in the third over, but in the next over, he came on a roll, hitting Thampi for a boundary and two sixes followed by another six, before completing the over with a six.

After Devdutt Padikkal fell off the final ball of the Powerplay, Buttler shared an 82-run stand with skipper Sanju Samson, who scored 30 for 21 before being dismissed by Kieron Pollard.

Shimron Hetmyer then joined the party as Pollard’s next over went for 26. Hetmyer was also dismissed for 35 off 14 balls and was caught in the deep by Jasprit Bumrah.

Butler completed his century in the 19th over, but Bumrah was dismissed after scoring 100 for 68 in a few balls.

He hit 11 boundaries and five sixes in his knock.
