Kanhaiya Kumar, Guj MLA Mevani Join Congress In Rahul’s Presence In Delhi

Mumbai: CPI leader and former JNU Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar and independent Gujarat MLA from the Vadgam constituency Jignesh Mevani on Tuesday joined Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.

The major development comes ahead of the Assembly elections in the BJP-ruled Gujarat next year.

Kumar had joined the Communist Party of India (CPI) before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and lost to the BJP’s Giriraj Singh from the Begusarai seat in Bihar.

Mevani, who is also the convener of the Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch (RDAM), won the Vadgam assembly seat in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district in 2017 with the support of the Congress.
