Karnataka: 16-Yr-Old Girl Raped By Hospital Worker, His Associates

Mumbai: In another shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by four youths over 18 years of age on Saturday evening near Shivamogga town in Karnataka. Police arrested two of the four accused on Sunday morning following a complaint.

According to police, the main accused is a contract worker at McGann Hospital, where the mother of a 16-year-old survivor has been treating COVID-19 infection for the past 15 days. Family members of patients are allowed to visit the hospital’s COVID-19 ward, but their admission is prohibited. The main accused befriended the teenager when she went to the hospital to see her mother.

On Saturday evening, the main accused asked the girl to go for a ride with him to eat. He told her that he would leave her in the hospital after eating. The teenager agreed. After this, the accused along with his three friends took the teenager to Ayanuru, around 20 km away from Shivamogga. They stopped the car at a secluded spot near the highway and sexually assaulted her. Later, they dropped her at the hospital and left, according to a report by The Times of India.

The girl opened up about the incident in front of her mother, who in turn informed her relatives and hospital staff, after which the police were informed and a case was registered at the Doddapete police station under the POCSO Act.

On receiving the complaint, the police immediately swung into action and arrested the two accused within hours. Police said that their interrogation is going on and efforts are being made to trace the other two accused.
