Kartarpur Corridor: Pakistan Removes Pro-Khalistan Leader Gopal Singh Chawla Over India’s Objection

Mumbai: Kartarpur corridor has been an important aspect for both India and Pakistan, in recent times. In a wake of India raising the issue of pro-Khalistan leader Gopal Singh Chawla finding a place on a panel associated with the project- Chawla’s name has been dropped from the committee

This comes a day before India and Pakistan committee meeting to be held on Sunday.

The official statement released on Friday, “The federal government (the federal cabinet) has pleased the restructuring of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (PSGPC).”

The first round of talks was held on 14th March in the Indian side of the Attari-Wagah border and the second round was scheduled in Wagah on the Pakistani border on 14th July (Sunday).

The second round of the negotiations was originally scheduled on April 2, but India objected the pro-Khalistan leader Chawla with the Kartarpur project.

So far, India has completed 60% of a four-lane highway, which will link the zero point of Kartarpur Corridor to the National Highway, while the base work of the state-of-the-art passenger terminal is going to be completed and the terminal will be ready by the end of October.

This corridor will allow the journey of Guru Nanak Dev’s final resting place to Gurudwara Durbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan, from the Dera Baba Nanak pilgrimage in Gurdaspur district of India.

Kartarpur Gurudwara is located in Narowal district of Pakistan, across Ravi, about four kilometers away from the Dera Baba Nanak temple in Gurdaspur.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that issues to be discussed at the Sunday meeting would include who can visit the Kartarpur shrine, how they can move across the corridor, the documentation required — will it be visa-free, and what are the facilities to ensure the movement is smooth, safe and unhindered.
