Kashmir Dispute Is the Bilateral Issue: Boris Johnshon

Mumbai: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson phone called various leaders of the world on Tuesday as he took charge of the office last month. In the series of these phone calls, one included a call to the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. During the call, the UK prime minister called the Kashmir issue as a bilateral issue and said it could only be solved through dialogue.

The spokesperson said, “The Prime Minister and Prime Minister Modi discussed the current situation in Kashmir… The Prime Minister (Johnson) made clear that the UK views the issue of Kashmir as one for India and Pakistan to resolve bilaterally. He underlined the importance of resolving issues through dialogue.”

Apart from the Kashmir issue both the Prime ministers discussed the relationship between India and Britain and importance of building stronger ties with each other through trade and economic relations and through the living bridge that links our country.

“Prime Minister Modi said there are immense possibilities for the UK and India which would increase prosperity in both countries,” the spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson both the prime ministers have decided to meet once before the G7 summit. “Ahead of the G7, the Prime Minister and Prime Minister Modi agreed on the importance of working together to tackle climate change and other threats to biodiversity. They looked forward to meeting at the summit this weekend to discuss this and other issues,”

In a statement released by PMO, PM Modi claims that terrorism has plagued all the world including India and Europe and that necessary and effective steps need to be taken to ward off threats.

During the phone call, Modi drew Johnson’s attention to the violent attacks that took place in Indian High Commission in London to which the British Prime minister expressed regrets and assured that necessary steps will be taken against the same and ensured the safety and security of the personnel at the Indian High Commission.
