Kerala Eases COVID-19 Curbs; Allows 100% Occupancy In Theatres, Restaurants

Mumbai: Amid declining COVID-19 cases, the Kerala government has eased certain restrictions in the state. Hotels, bars, restaurants and theatres in Kerala are now allowed to operate at 100% seating capacity, state CMO stated.

The order said that government, semi-government offices can conduct meetings or training offline if required.

Restrictions have also been lifted at the district level based on the number of people hospitalized.

The government had authorized the State Disaster Management Authority to divide the districts into three groups – A, B and C – based on the number of people admitted in hospitals and imposed restrictions accordingly. As the cases declined, the state administration opened schools, colleges and coaches.

Today, the state recorded 2,524 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total to 6,497,204 so far.

According to a government release, 62 people also died in the southern state, taking the death toll to 65,223.

With 5,499 more people recovering from the virus since Saturday, the total number of recoveries in the state reached 6,401,236 and active cases came down to 29,943, the release said.

In the last 24 hours, 34,680 samples were tested.

In 14 districts, Ernakulam reported 393 cases, followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 356 and Kottayam 241, the release said.

Of the new cases, 22 were health workers, of which 8 were from outside the state and 107 were infected 2,387, the source of which was not clear, the release said.

There are currently 1,05,780 people under surveillance in various districts, of whom 1,03,592 are in-home or institutional quarantine and 2,188 in hospitals, the release said.
