Mumbai: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday demanding “intervention for an effective investigation” into the seizure of more than 30 kg of gold at the state’s international airport.

In particular, the CMOS of Kerala is under scrutiny and opposition leaders have asked the investigating agencies to look into the Vijayan government.

The fact that the attempt to smuggle large amounts of gold into diplomatic goods was hidden, is a serious matter. It is learned that the customs officials are investigating the incident. This case has serious implications as it weakens the nation’s economy. In fact, it is examining more than one angle, ”said CM Vijayan.

While requesting an investigation into the incident by the concerned central agencies, the CM said that the scope of the investigation should cover all aspects from source to end-users, so that such incidents do not recur.

Vijayan also said that the state government would provide all necessary assistance for the investigation.

Sivasankar was removed from his post on Monday, taking the first important wicket in Kerala’s gold smuggling case, followed by Principal Secretary IT Swapna Suresh, who is currently on the run.
