KL Rahul To Return To India After Injuring Himself In The Nets In Australia

Mumbai: Team India wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests against Australia. The 28-year-old sprained his left wrist while batting in the nets at the MCG on Saturday.

“KL Rahul sprained his left wrist while batting in the nets at the MCG during Team India’s practice session on Saturday. The wicketkeeper-batsman will not be available for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he will need about three weeks time to recover completely and regain full strength,” the statement read.

“He will now return to India and head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of his injury,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Prior to this, two experienced pacers in Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav faced injury during the match. While Shami was ruled out of the tournament with a fractured wrist, Yadav sustained a strain in his left calf muscle on Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

The BCCI named left-arm pacer T Natarajan, who impressed everybody with his bowling in the limited-overs series against Australia, as Yadav’s replacement.

Rohit Sharma has been named as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the third Test.

Under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy, India fought back in the Boxing Day Test to defeat Australia by 8 wickets. The third Test is scheduled to be played from January 7.
