Kohli To Miss 1st ODI Series Under Rohit’s Full-Time Captaincy Due To Holiday: Reports

Mumbai: Virat Kohli won’t feature in the ODI series against South Africa, which will be India’s first ODI series under Rohit Sharma’s full-time white-ball captaincy, due to a holiday with family, reports said.

Kohli, who is a part of India’s Test squad for the tour of South Africa, is said to have already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his decision.

The recent decision by the BCCI to hand over the captaincy to Rohit Sharma in both the limited-overs formats had created quite a stir. While Kohli is yet to officially react to the development, his decision to skip the 3-match ODI series against Proteas has nothing to do with the change in captaincy.

A Times of India report suggests that Virat is taking time out to celebrate his daughter Vamika’s first birthday. Vamika was born on January 11 last year and the Indian Test captain is said to be planning a holiday with his family after the conclusion of the Test series. The last Test of the tour will be played from January 11 to January 15. The ODI series will start on January 19.

The turn of events in Indian cricket in recent times has been quite dramatic. Earlier, Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the entire Test series due to a hamstring injury.

However, Hitman is expected to be fully fit for the ODI series. Now, it looks like Kohli will not be available for the crucial ODIs at Rainbow Nation.
