Kolkata Doctors Demands Unconditional Apology From Mamata Banerjee To End Protest

Mumbai: Doctors in West Bengal demands unconditional apology from State CM Mamata Banerjee and and have put six conditions to end the protest in the state.

“We want unconditional apology of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the manner in which she had addressed us at the SSKM Hospital yesterday. She should not have said what she had,” a spokesperson of the joint forum of junior doctors, Dr Arindam Dutta, said.

Mamta Banerjee visited the SSKM hospital in Kolkata on Thursday afternoon, where she gave the protested doctors four hours ultimatum to withdraw their ongoing strike and warned of “strong action” if the situation was not normal within the time limit.

While visiting the SSKM Hospital, Mamata Banerjee had contended that “outsiders” had entered medical colleges to create disturbances and the agitation was a conspiracy by the CPI(M) and the BJP.

Listing six conditions, the agitators said that the Chief Minister should visit injured doctors in the hospital and his office should issue a statement condemning the attack on them.

They said, “We also want the immediate intervention of the Chief Minister. On Monday night, documentary proof of judicial inquiry should also be provided against the inaction of police to provide security to doctors at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital.”

They demanded unconditional withdrawal of all “false cases and accusations”, which were imposed on junior doctors and medical students in West Bengal in view of their strike.

Doctors also emphasized the need for posting of armed police personnel along with improving infrastructure in all health facilities.

In West Bengal, junior doctors continued their agitation for the fourth day on Friday, obstructing day-to-day services in medical colleges and hospitals of all the states, and several private hospitals.

In Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal, doctors attacked Mamta Banerjee and her administration in Loggerheads on Monday night after assaulting resident doctors in NRS Medical College and injuring a doctor seriously.
