Latest Test Rankings Released, Rohit Jumps 36 Places To Career-Best 17th

Mumbai: India batsman Rohit Sharma, who became the first player to score a century in an innings of his first Test as an opener, achieved a career-best 17th position in the MRF Tires ICC Test Player Rankings.

Thanks to three previous centuries in the Test, Sharma gained 36 slots after his innings of 176 and helped India win by 203 runs in the first Test against South Africa at Visakhapatnam by 127 runs and 1-0 took the lead in the three-match series.

Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal also gained a career-best 25th position after his first innings double-century lifted him 38 places.

Following, Captain Virat Kohli has dropped below the 900-point mark for the first time since January 2018. He is now on 899 points, 38 behind top-ranked Steve Smith.

In the bowling department, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin returned to the top 10 after his eight-wicket match which included figures of seven for 145 in the first innings. The former top-order bowler moved up four places from the 14th position and into the top five among all-rounders.

Fast bowler Mohammed Shami has dropped two places from his career-best 14th ranking to 18th to 16th, while Ravindra Jadeja has overtaken Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh to finish second among all-rounders.

Meanwhile, India has gained 40 points in the ICC World Test Championship table after the win at Visakhapatnam and are now on 160 points after having won a full 120 points for a 2-0 series win in the West Indies.
