Latest Test rankings released, Smith Moves To Second Slot, Kohli Maintains His Top Position

Mumbai: Australia’s Steve Smith edged out New Zealand captain Kane Williamson to finish second among batsmen, while India’s captain Virat Kohli retained his number one spot in the latest ICC Test batsmen rankings.

Steve Smith scored a stunning 92 in the Lord’s Test after giving Australia a consecutive win with a 251-run win over England in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

Despite being banned for a year, Smith replaced Kane Williamson and is just nine points behind table-topper Virat Kohli.

However, Australia’s top-order players David Warner (four runs), Usman Khwaja and Cameron Bancroft (both bottom five) have lost.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne, whose brilliant 122 in the first Test helped his team claim a six-wicket victory over New Zealand, broke into the top 10, climbed four places to number 8, the highest he has been in his seven-year Test career

Among the bowlers, Archer, who returned 5/91 match figures in his debut Test at Lord’s, moved up to 83rd in the rankings. Jack Leach, who was only playing his sixth Test, climbed eight places to number 40.
