Less Stigma Around Depression Today But Long Way To Go: Deepika Padukone

Mumbai: The Padmavat actress Deepika Padukone who always impresses her fans all over the country with her performance on screen recently spoke about mental health and start a conversation about depression.

She gave her first lecture on Sunday on behalf of her Foundation Live, Love Laugh in Delhi. The actor talked about the stigma related to conversations about mental health and how there is a greater awareness of high time.

“I think the conversation has opened up (on mental health). I don’t think there’s as much stigma as there used to be four years ago. But we certainly have a long way to go in terms of creating more awareness. I think that’s where we need to keep the conversation alive,” Deepika said at the event.

‘The Live Love Laugh’ foundation was founded in 2015, by non-other than Deepika Padukone as a non-profit NGO to bring awareness to mental health in India. In 2016, the organization launched a program called “You Are Not Alone.

The focus of the Live Love Laugh Foundation is to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health. The foundation spreads awareness and changes the way people look at mental health in general. It provides a platform that enables people who are seeking help to learn more information and connect with mental health professionals.

Opening up to her struggle so far, the Piku star described her journey as “incredible”.

“It has been an incredible journey since we developed our foundation. It has been 4 years now and today we launch our first lecture series and I think we have come a long way and in all certainties, we have a long way to go. But I think as far as the conversation around mental health is concerned, I think we have come a long way,” the actress said.

Deepika said, “I think the media has played a huge role in this, to open the conversation in different ways whether its interviews, write-ups and articles … but we definitely have a long way to go. Is and so today we have a lecture series. ”

On the work front, Deepika is all set for upcoming film ‘Chhapaak’ directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar in collaboration with Fox Star Studios. It also stars Vikrant Massey the film is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

The film also marks Padukone’s first project as a producer. It is scheduled for release on January 10, 2020.
