Lockdown Has Badly Hit Working Class: Mamata Banerjee

Mumbai: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that the ongoing lockout to counter the COVID-19 epidemic has badly affected the working class.

He wished all workers and their families on “International Workers’ Day” and said that everyone has to stand “shoulder to shoulder with their brothers and sisters” in this difficult time.

“On #InternationalWorkersDay, my humble greetings to all workers around the world & their families. The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown have hit the working class hard. We have to stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters,” Banerjee tweeted on Friday.

The chief minister referred to two new schemes announced by his government to help migrant labourers and those working in the unorganized sector, which are severely affected by the lockdown.

“To stand by the working class during the lockdown, our Govt in #Bangla announced two new schemes – ‘Sneher Porosh’ for migrant labourers, and ‘Prochesta’ for workers in the unorganised sector, she added.
