Maha May Seek Permit To Vaccinate Those Aged Above 30: Mumbai Mayor

Mumbai: Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said on Tuesday that the Maharashtra government was considering sending a proposal to the central government seeking permission to vaccinate beneficiaries above 30 years of age.

In an interactive session with the “Free Press Journal”, Pednekar said, “The Union Ministry has allowed anyone over the age of 45 to be vaccinated, for the next phase we will allow people over the age of 30 Considering being allowed to vaccinate.”

“The state may write to the Centre seeking permission on the matter after that we will act accordingly,” she added.

The mayor also said, in order to vaccinate a maximum number of beneficiaries, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will start door-to-door visits to inoculate specially-abled citizens.

The mayor also mentioned that currently, more than 95 per cent of cases are being reported at high speed and most citizens have a travel history.

“The thing is people are not any-more afraid of the ongoing spread of the disease, which is why the state government is considering to impose stricter curbs so that people can start behaving accordingly,” Pednekar said.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Monday added 31,643 fresh infections, taking the overall tally to 27,45,518, the state health department said. With 102 fatalities, the death toll in the state went up to 54,283.
