Maha: One Held For Rape And Murder Of Five-Year-Old Girl

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old man has been arrested for raping and murdering a five-year-old tribal girl by smashing her head with a stone in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district PTI reported.

It further reported that the body of the girl,  who was missing since December 6, was found on an agriculture farm in Linga village in Kalmeshwar taluka, some 25 km away from Nagpur.

Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola told PTI, “The arrested accused Sanjay Puri works in the farm like the parents of the girl.”

Puri is a resident of Mohgaon village in the district.

The SP said that the police have made sections 376 (punishment for rape), 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 302 (punishment for murder) apart from the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) Act and SC / ST Atrocities Prevention Act. Has filed a case under.

A local court on Monday remanded the accused to police custody till 13 December.

According to the police, the girl’s parents live on one side of the farm, while her grandmother, on the other side, has a short walkway connecting the two houses.

“A girl went missing on Friday evening. Initially, her parents had assumed that she must have gone to her grandmother’s house. However, they lodged a missing person complaint on Saturday afternoon after realizing that she was not traceable,” PTI quoted police official says.

PTI reported that the residents of Kalmeshwar organized rallies and called a bandh to protest the ruthless killing of the girl.

The main markets remained closed since the morning after people took to the streets to condemn the incident and demanded speedy justice.
