Maharashtra Declares Epidemic; Malls, Theatres Shut In 5 Cities Including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur

Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has announced gyms, theatres, auditoriums, swimming pools to be shut in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Thane following the Coronavirus outbreak all over the country.

So far 17 to 20 positive cases have been reported in the state. People returning from China, S Korea, France, Spain, and Iran will be quarantined.

Law on epidemics has been invoked in Maharashtra, no mass gatherings will be allowed in the state.

CM further also directed that Except exams schools in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad to be closed not in Mumbai or elsewhere.

He also urged companies to allow their employees to work from home.

Meanwhile, a six-storey building in Thane has been identified as a quarantine facility by the municipal corporation, reports said on Friday. The facility is equipped with 16 beds for people who have traveled to India from abroad or have come in contact with a suspected patient.

The World Health Organisation declared the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 as pandemic on Wednesday. The death toll of COVID-19 has crossed the 4,000 marks and confirmed cases globally have touched 1 lakh as per the reports.
