Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Receives Death Threat via Email

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde has received a death threat via email, warning of an attempt to blow up his car. The threatening messages were sent to the Goregaon and JJ Marg police stations, as well as the Mantralaya (state secretariat), prompting an immediate security response.

Investigation Underway

Following the email threat, the Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch have launched an investigation to trace the sender’s IP address. Authorities are taking the matter seriously, and security around Eknath Shinde has been significantly increased.

Not the First Death Threat

This is not the first time that Eknath Shinde has faced such threats. Earlier in February 2024, a 19-year-old college student, identified as Shubham Warkad, had issued similar threats against Shinde and his son, MP Shrikant Shinde, via social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Following police intervention, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested Shubham Warkad from Pune on February 11, 2024. A case was registered against him under sections 506(2) and 505(1)(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deal with criminal intimidation and public mischief.

Heightened Security Measures

In light of the repeated threats, law enforcement agencies have reinforced security arrangements for Eknath Shinde and his family. The police are actively working to track down the sender of the latest email threat and ensure that necessary preventive measures are in place.

Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activity and emphasize that stringent action will be taken against those involved in issuing threats against public figures.
