Maharashtra Floods Claim 251 Lives, 100 Missing: NCP’s Nawab Malik

Mumbai: Around 251 people have lost their lives and 100 others are still missing in Maharashtra as several districts in the state have been severely affected due to floods following heavy rainfall, NCP leader Nawab Malik said.

The NCP leader said Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is also visiting the flood-affected areas and the state government has announced assistance as per the norms of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

“The floods have destroyed houses and crops. The decision to provide assistance to the flood-affected people will be taken in the cabinet meeting and we are planning to extend help from our party as well,” Malik said.

As the rescue operation continues at a brisk pace in the state, a total of 34 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in Maharashtra.

Most of the NDRF (8) teams are currently stationed in the Kolhapur district, followed by 6 teams in Ratnagiri. 4 teams each have been deployed in Satara and Pune and 3 teams in Mumbai. One NDRF team each has been deployed for Sindhudurg, Sangli and Thane districts.

Two Coast Guard teams are also functioning in Ratnagiri, while two Army units are stationed at Kolhapur and Sangli. 3 teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are working for Raigad district and 1 team for Wardha. A total of 142 boats including 131 of NDRF are engaged in the rescue work.
