Maharashtra Govt Announces 60% Cut In March Salaries Of CM, MLAs And MLCs

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government said on Tuesday 31 March that there would be a 60 per cent reduction in the salaries of public representatives in the state this month, including the chief minister, which would affect the coronavirus economy.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is also the state’s Finance Minister, said the decision has been taken after consultation with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and various unions of the employees.

“Class I and II salaries will be cut by 50 per cent, while the salary of third class employees will be cut by 25 per cent. There will be no cut in the salary of the remaining classes in the state bureaucracy.”

He said that this decision has been taken after detailed consultation with various unions of employees.

“I hope the public representative will cooperate with the state’s finance department as the ongoing fight against coronaviruses requires strong financial support for the state,” he said.

Pawar said that the state’s economy has been affected due to the coronavirus crisis and lack of resources after the lockout.
