Maharashtra Govt Sets Up Panel To Probe Charges Against Param Bir Singh

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has set up a 3-member committee led by a senior IAS officer to hold an inquiry against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.

This move comes after acting DGP Sanjay Pandey recused himself from interrogating Param Bir Singh.

The former top cop has alleged and also produced phone recordings wherein Pandey had offered to mediate between him and the Maharashtra government.

However, Singh has approached the Bombay High Court and the matter will be heard today. Two rounds of interrogations were held before that and the state government is expected to produce the outcomes of these interrogations.

The former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh has also moved to Bombay HC, due to the FIR registered against him by CBI.

He also pleaded for interim protection from any intimidating action by the agency.

Meanwhile, on April 29, the Maharashtra police filed an FIR against Singh after a police inspector levelled corruption charges against him. The FIR has been registered at Akola in Vidarbha against Singh, DCP Parag Manere and 26 other policemen.

The city Kotwali police in Akola registered the FIR against the police personnel under various sections ranging from criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence and sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities Act), 1989.
