The video was shared at a time when Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar spoke to the media and claimed that the claims made on Anil Deshmukh were ‘baseless’.

“If you see the former Commissioner’s letter, he mentions that in mid-February he was informed by certain officers that they got such and such instructions from Home Minister. Deshmukh was admitted in hospital because of coronavirus between February 5-15”, the NCP chief told reporters.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Amit Malviya shared a tweet posted on February 15 by the state Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh, where he can be seen addressing a press meet.

Ousted Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh levelled allegations of corruption against Deshmukh. In a letter to CM Thackeray, Singh alleged that Deshmukh was running an extortion racket and had asked Mumbai Police officials to “collect” Rs 100 crore per month, over half of it from the 1,750-odd restaurants, bars and hotels in the megapolis.

Immediately after the allegations surfaced, the BJP demanded Deshmukh’s resignation. “If ₹ 100 crore was the target by Home Minister (Maharashtra) then what was the target by other ministers,” Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
