Maharashtra Issues Rules For New Year, Asks People To Avoid Crowding

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Wednesday released rules for celebrating New Year and asked citizens to not crowd places like Gateway of India.

According to the guidelines, the government has advised citizens above 60 years and below 10 years to stay indoors. Whereas, as per the guidelines, events held in closed halls will be allowed up to 50% of the available seating capacity and in open spaces, people will be allowed to participate within 25% of the available capacity.

Maharashtra government Covid-19 guidelines for New Year’s:

  1. Events will be allowed to hold with up to 50% of the available seating capacity in closed halls and people at events held in the open space will be allowed to attend within 25% of the available capacity.
  2. Special care should be taken to ensure that such places will not be crowded and that social distancing will be maintained and masks and sanitisers will be used.
  3. Citizens over the age of 60 and children under the age of ten should avoid going out of the house as much as possible for safety and health reasons.
  4. Citizens should ensure that social distancing shall be maintained with the usage of masks and sanitisers in public places like beaches, gardens and streets.
  5. Crowding at places like Gateway of India, Marine Lines, Girgaon Chowpatty, Juhu Chowpatty and other places in Mumbai should be avoided.
  6. Religious/cultural events should not be organized on the occasion of the New Year and processions should not be taken out.
  7. On the first day of the new year, most of the citizens go to religious places, in such cases, social distance should be observed without crowding the place at the same time.
  8. Fireworks should not be burst, rules regarding noise pollution should be strictly followed.

“Last week we were reporting 150 cases per day. Now we are registering around 2,000 cases daily. Mumbai may cross 2,000 cases per day today,” Maharashtra cabinet minister Aaditya Thackeray told reporters.

Emphasizing that vaccination should be increased, Tope said the government has prepared a list of citizens who have opted out of the campaign.

“Every day, 51,000 tests are conducted in Mumbai, but if 2,200 people test positive, then the positivity rate stands at 4 per cent, which is not good. We need to be cautious,” he said.
