Maharashtra Rain: 2,30,000 People Have Been Evacuated From Flood-Hit Areas

Mumbai: According to the information given by the Relief and Rehabilitation Department on Sunday night, about 2,30,000 people were evacuated from the flood-affected areas in Maharashtra.

A total of 149 people have died and 3,248 animals have been killed in the floods and landslides. A release from the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office said that a total of 50 people were injured and 100 were missing, while 875 villages were affected.

Seven flood rescue teams of the Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command deployed at Ratnagiri and Raigad continued efforts to provide assistance to the flood-affected population. The Western Naval Command said today that the teams will return to Mumbai after the completion of the rescue operation.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced that he will visit western Maharashtra on Monday to assess the damage caused to the region after the rains.

The Chief Minister also directed the concerned District Collectors to immediately provide food, medicine, clothes and other essential things to the flood victims.

“You are getting proper help from the central government. I have spoken to the prime minister, home minister and defence minister. Units of NDRF, Army, Air Force are helping the state government in the event of floods,” he told the officials.
