Maharashtra: Seven-Year-Old Girl Raped And Murdered, Accused Hangs Himself

Mumbai :  In a shocking incident, a seven-year-old girl has been raped and murdered at Pimpri-Chinchwad in Maharashtra.  The accused committed suicide while police tried to track him.

Senior police officer, Smartana Patil said, “We received a call that a body has been brought to the hospital on Tuesday. The girl was declared dead and rape was suspected.”

“During the investigation, it was found that a person threatened the victim’s mother a day before the incident. When we tried to track the accused, we found him hanging in a jungle, he allegedly committed suicide, “said Patil.

Rape is the fourth most common crime against women in India.  According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2013 annual report, 24,923 rape cases were reported across India in 2012. Out of these, 24,470 were committed by someone known to the victim (98% of the cases).

According to NCRB 2015 statistics, Madhya Pradesh has the highest raw number of rape reports among Indian states, while Jodhpur in Rajasthan has the highest per capita rate of rape reports in cities followed by Delhi the capital city.
